What is a Mystery Reader? A relative of one of our students, a member of our community, or anyone else who can read their favorite short story to our class. You will also spend a few minutes talking about what it takes to be a successful adult.
When do Mystery Readers come? 2:00 on Friday afternoons *unless we arrange a different time*.
Why is the Mystery Reader important? Students love a special guest, a surprise, or anything "different" from our regular day. It involves members outside of our classroom. Students get to hear a fluent reader and see that reading never stops. Sharing a little about yourself also gives the students a chance to learn something about someone new.
Where do I go to sign up to be a Mystery Reader? The Mystery Reader program will not begin until September. Please use the link below to let me know if you are interested or contact me by phone, email, note. Students do know that we have the program, but DO NOT know who is coming each Friday, so please keep it a secret.
How does the Mystery Reader program work?
Once you've signed up for a date to come read to our class, you can start thinking of a book you would like to bring to read. If you don't have a book, I will be glad to have one for you. The week prior to your visit, I will send you a reminder, along with a request for five clues to read to the students everyday leading up to your visit. The clues should start generically and get more specific as they go. By the fifth clue, our class should be able to have a good guess that you are the special mystery reader for the day!
